Kyle Spraker
Trumpet Faculty

Native to Southern California, Kyle Spraker is a Greater Boston area orchestral trumpeter, chamber musician, soloist, and dedicated educator. As an interpreter of new music, Kyle attributes his success to an open-minded approach that combines his experience performing and listening to a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Each new composition poses unique technical and musical challenges that require patience to master, but a vivid imagination to bring to life.

Currently, Kyle is the Principal Trumpet of the Cape Symphony on Cape Cod, where he also serves on faculty at the Cape Conservatory and works full-time as the Director of Community Outreach & Education for both the Conservatory and Symphony. Since beginning his new position last year, he has helped create and provide diverse, inclusive, and free, educational programs to more than 20,000 students on the Cape. Music education has been a central focus of Kyle’s career and nothing provides more satisfaction to him than inviting new-comers into the fascinating, and often strange, world of music and performance.

As a freelancer, Kyle regularly performs with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic, and Redline Brass Quintet. He has also performed with the Boston Philharmonic, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Albany Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, and played principal trumpet for several years with the Discovery Ensemble. Summer festivals include: Spoleto Festival USA (Lachenmann- Little Match Girl), National Orchestral Institute, Idyllwild Festival, and the Castleton Festival under the baton of Lorin Maazel.

Kyle has been a member of Callithumpian Consort since 2011 and has enjoyed the many challenges and rewards of performing such incredibly imaginative compositions with unbelievably talented and dedicated colleagues. Some favorite SICPP performances include: Donatoni- Hot, Steiger- Coalescence, and playing lion’s roar/siren in Varèse- Ionisation.
